Transfer Application Instructions:

(Article L12.03, L12.13)

Teachers who are applying for a Transfer are also strongly encouraged to apply for the Teacher Exchange Opportunity Program (L12.19) at the same time. Applying to both increases the likelihood that the teacher will be able to move to a different school.

​

As per L12.03.01 of the TBU Collective Agreement, Bargaining Unit Members who wish to be considered for transfer to another secondary school must inform the Senior Administrator in Human Resources in writing no later than March 15 in the school year immediately prior to the school year for which the transfer shall be effective.  Applications for transfer will open no later than February 1st.

A teacher must have been employed by the Board for at least two (2) years prior to requesting a transfer. This provision may be waived at the Board’s exclusive discretion.

Consider the following when completing your Transfer Application form:

"I am willing to accept:"

If you select “a beginning of semester transfer only”, you will NOT be considered for any transfer opportunity that arises mid-semester.

 

"I am willing to split my teaching time between two (2) sites"

If you select “No”, you will only be considered for transfers of your entire FTE at one time, essentially limiting a 6/6 fte teacher to transfers that are available during spring staffing for the following school year only.

If you select "Yes - Between Semesters," you will be considered for partial FTE transfers (ex. a 3/6 fte transfer for a 6/6 fte teacher)

​

If you select "Yes - During the School Day," you will be considered for partial FTE transfers that have you working at one site in the morning and a second site in the afternoon.  This type of transfer would only be offered if geographically feasible.

If your teaching time becomes split across sites due to transfers, consider filling out the 2025/26 Application for Consolidation of Teaching Time in the event a consolidation opportunity were to open up mid-semester.

 

If you wish to be considered for a transfer in the future to the new school to be in Guelph (forecasted opening of 2026/27 school year) please select that option. Teachers who select this option for more than 3 consecutive years will be considered for transfer before teachers who have selected this for 3 years or less when the school opens, as outlined in L12.13.

Use this space to clarify any specific requests or additional information. Examples: I am willing to split my teaching time by semester only (sem. 1 at school A, sem. 2 at school B).

Or

I would consider taking a leave from some of my contract time (1 period) to transfer to school B if possible. Etc.
