In 1984 the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) established April 28th as the National Day of Mourning in Canada. This day is meant to remember and honour those who have died, been injured, or suffered illness in the workplace.
Events held on this day draw attention and build awareness for the continuing need for improved health and safety standards and protections for ALL workers. No worker should go to work and not return home to their family.
Locally, the Orangeville & District Labour Council will be hosting a gathering in recognition of the Day of Mourning at the Orangeville Townhall starting at 12:15pm on Friday April 28th,
The Guelph & District Labour Council will be hosting an event at Goldie Mill Park starting at 5:30pm on Friday April 28th (please see the pdf below for more information).
If able to, members are encouraged to attend.
