Call for Applicants: Effects of Racism on D18 Members

The District Executive is looking for seven (7) Active Members to serve on the following workgroup.

Cost Estimate: $750

BE IT RESOLVED THAT District 18 approve the creation of a workgroup of up to seven (7) members, endeavouring to have one member per bargaining unit, appointed by the District Executive Committee (DEC) to investigate the effects of racism on D18 members. The workgroup will meet 4 times over the 2020-2021 Federation year, consult with the District 18 Human Rights Officer and appropriate members of DEC and Provincial Office to:

  1. Conduct local research into racism, specifically anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism, toward D18 members, and

  2. explore ways in which DEC can better support and advocate for racialized D18 members, and

  3. offer DEC advice on next steps for anti-racism work in the District.

The workgroup will report their findings and recommendations at the 2021 Annual Meeting of District 18.

Interested Members are asked to send a maximum one-page letter of Interest indicating their qualifications, knowledge, and lived experience. Members must be able to commit to the entire project.

The workgroup expects to meet approximately four times this year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all meetings will take place in a virtual setting until further notice.
